Sunrise in Paradise

Winter has arrived, we have had an interesting week of weather varying from upper seventies to mid thirties. The other day it was supposed to be one of the warmer days reaching almost eighty degrees, so I told Gene if we happen to wake up early enough I’d like to go over to the beach and watch the sunrise, so it turned out I woke up at five o’clock the next morning and we got up and headed to the beach. What an absolutely beautiful morning. We walked along the beach and when we first arrived early in the morning we were the only ones on the beach. It was absolutely peaceful. We sat quietly watching the sun slowly making its appearance as it lifted to life out over the waters edge. What a beautiful sight. As the sun rose we came across huge flocks of birds, it seemed a little creepy at first there were so many it was like walking into a scene from “The Birds”. If you haven’t seen that old Alfred Hitchcock thriller I highly recommend it.

The morning was so lovely we strolled for quite a while and just enjoyed the moment we were in. Later we decided to go to breakfast and had a lovely meal at Azure, a beautiful setting beachside, enjoying a mimosa with our meal. I think we need to do this more often. It was a great way to start our day.
Our week was another busy one but we seen progress, our landscaper brought our beautiful palm trees and shrubs and got them all planted, Gene got his workshop area in the garage mostly set up and complete, we found the final things we were looking for to complete the decor in our house, had our new TV mounted, even though they didn’t connect the surround sound correctly and now we have to have them come back out to fix it, that’s another story, and we took some time for enjoyment so not a bad week.

Gene is helping our friend out that has a handyman business and he recently had knee replacement surgery, by doing some handyman work for him, he did his first job yesterday and it sounds like the man he did the work for who owns several rental properties plans on using him again until our friend is able to return. Thats nice for Gene to have something to do outside of the house and it helps our friend. It’s a win win.

Today we finished out our week meeting up with my daughters friend and her two children in Saint Augustine. They also moved from Washington about a year ago, due to her husbands career, they have lived here before and only live a couple of hours from us. This is a young lady that was good friends with my daughter while growing up in Washington. We had a lovely lunch and we also visited my cousin for a bit who manages a chocolate store there and then went to a small magic show. A very fun afternoon and a great way to spend our Sunday. Really enjoyed ourselves today.

Like always, we are so thankful for this new life we are so blessed to be living. We are looking forward to seeing what the days, weeks, months and years ahead have in store for us, Lord willing. As always, with grateful hearts.

  1. Darlene,
    The pictures are captivating!
    Thanks for sharing.
I also have found situations that bring to my mind that movie, “The Birds,”
    Very creepy!

I love what Gene is willing to do alongside you(i admit to a bit of godly envy for having such an agreeable partner). You have such a mix of fun in the early morning and travel to cousin’s chocolate shops and visits with friends of your children, slow walks, social dinners and intimate mimosas with an early breakfast…you are living a dream! And to think, heaven will even be more exquisite! Thank you for giving a truer picture of how it will be for us all some day 😊
