So Close But Yet So Far

We are now finally on our sixth day and with the exception of our detour from Evanston Wyoming down through Denver Colorado, we have had a very smooth trip. The driving has been easy and time has passed rather quickly so this road trip has not been too bad. I think the big storm we had through Kentucky was our most stressful driving conditions so far, maybe tied with the long winding Rocky Mountains. And I say with all sincerity even those were not hideous, it wasn’t until we hit Atlanta that I really felt stressed. The traffic is awful, we came through on Saturday and traffic was thick and bogged down for miles, and these are some aggressive drivers. They do not have patience. I’ve seen a lot of interesting driving across America but these folks take the cake. They drive fast, weaving in and out, sometimes missing the front of your car by just a couple of feet. They ride your tail so close if you were to hit your breaks you know they’d be in your back seat. And the thickness of the traffic on a Saturday makes me shutter to think what the weekday commute must be like. No offense but no thank you! Gene and I both agreed there is zero part of us that would ever want to live anywhere close to that hot mess. I’m sure it offers other great things and for those who don’t mind this it’s probably got many great things going for it, but the traffic alone was enough for us to say a big no thanks on that one.

But once we got through the stop and go traffic and the slow crawl that lasted well beyond the city the roads opened up, the state itself is beautiful and we chugged along to our final stop for the evening reaching Valdosta around dinner time.
We went to dinner and celebrated this being the last night in a hotel for quite a while. We have talked about doing some road trips but after this long move I believe we will wait a while on that, considering we had just done a big two week trip this Summer through Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons and now this, I think we will enjoy being home for a bit. We already have plans to fly out to see our kids in three weeks to celebrate some birthdays, so we will take a break from travel, with the exception of flying home on occasion and just enjoy what our new home town has to offer. We really look forward to further exploring our new home state.

So tomorrow is our final leg of our moving part of our journey and that is a short three hour drive, I think we can handle that. We better get good rest as we have a lot of work ahead of us. Our movers are scheduled to arrive at three o’clock. I hope they are better unloading than the two guys who loaded our truck. We are concerned we will have damage once we get there. Gene who has been loading trucks for years said they did not load it right at all and they wouldn’t listen to him when he would question how they were doing things. So we are both concerned this could end up bad for our furnishings. Praying its not.
So tomorrow we will finally arrive to our new home sweet home!!! I hope I can sleep tonight because I’m going to need the energy. Now the real work begins.
