We’re Still Here….

When we listed the house last June 2024, for sale by owner, we never dreamed we would still be here trying to sell the house in January 2025. So after listing the house ourselves we got hounded by real estate agents who wanted the listing. Not one person called to show the house even though we had it listed as realtors welcome. This is how we sold our last three homes, so after a brief try at doing the for sale by owner effort, we gave in and hired our friend to list our house. So we placed it on the market July 24, 2024. And from July 24th until November 30th, we had a total of four showings and of those, one was from a family member of one of the men in Genes bible study class. So we made the decision to pull the house off the market on November 30th for one month and refresh the listing after thirty days so it would then become a new listing when we relisted. We have officially had the house back on the market for 17 days as of today’s date of January 17th. We have had four open houses and had two serious lookers who also had homes to sell. The market is beyond slow, and we are beyond frustrated to say the least. We just have to keep reminding ourselves it will happen, hopefully sooner than later.

In the meantime we sold all of the furniture and the movers are coming to pick up the furniture tomorrow the 18th. Gene and I have been very busy the last few days sorting through the items we are keeping, most of the things are what our girls picked out before we made the furniture deal, and other items that are sentimental. We made the decision to stage the house as we looked at possibly shopping second hand for a few items to get us by until the house sells, but that didn’t seem to be going well for us so our realtor knew a stager that would allow us to live in the house with her staged items. We are grateful beyond words she was willing to make an exception for us and now we don’t have to stress about having an empty house.

We have continued to plan for our full time travels, we have started making purchases for items we will need and doing a lot of research into different locations we would like to go first. It is very difficult to plan out our first trips as we don’t know which month we will be in when the house sells, so all of that will depend on when that happens. We are at the mercy of this dead market and the future sale of the house.

In the meantime we had planned on going to Japan in March to see our daughter and her family so we are planning that trip spending twelve days visiting her and her family and also making plans to stay and tour through Japan for another three weeks once we leave the area our daughter lives. We will be traveling from Tokyo, Yokohama, Takayama, Nikko, Mt. Fuji, Kawaguchiko, Kanazawa, Kyoto, Osaka, Hiroshima and Nara. With us being two months out we are planning now and have just begun booking our stays/airfares etc… We are excited to do this trip and were really hoping to go on from there to South Korea, but we have decided to return to Florida in hopes that the house sells. There is that feeling of being in limbo. Anyways, that is the jest of what is happening here and saying big prayers we will be on our way soon.

As with anything we have to trust that it will all work out and continue to be patient. And truthfully, I’m not very good at that. So that is the update and hoping the next blog post is us announcing the sale of our house and our future plans.

Senso-Ji Temple, Tokyo.

The above photo of us in front of the Senso-Ji Temple, Tokyo was from our trip we took to Japan in 2010. We plan on revisiting some of the places we were before, and this is one of those places on our list to return to. Counting down the days……
