Well , the house has been on the market for about 40 days and we’ve only had two showings. It is a very slow market right now and so we are just trying to stay patient and trust in Gods timing. But in saying that we keep moving forward with liquidating all of our belongings. Today we listed our cute little Ruby for sale. She has been a fun little car to drive and she was my first convertible. I’ve really enjoyed this car and I hope that whom ever purchases her will treat her as well as we have. She’s always shined and polished and we try not to drive her in the rain. She is a 2011 Mini Cooper with 47,000 miles so I know whoever gets her will be lucky to have her.
We also made a deal with a former work associate of mine, he and his wife will be purchasing all of our furnishings, decor, dishes, pots and pans, linens etc…They take possession of everything the third week of October so hopefully we get an offer on the house before then. If not, the plan is to stage the house until it sells.
We’ve made a couple trips back to Washington, it’s been too hot for us here in Florida so we took our planned trip back for Easter but came home and after four weeks of mid to upper nineties, humid with heat indexes hitting 105-110 degrees here so we headed back to Washington for twelve days, we spent more time with our kids, grandkids and parents and enjoyed the break from the heat. We like sun and warm but this Summer has been a tough one.
This weekend we will have another open house on Sunday and there is another open house scheduled next weekend as well, several realtors in the neighborhood have gotten together to all open their listings on the same day so hopefully that brings buyers in. We know our realtor is doing all she can to get showings but when it’s slow it’s slow. There’s hope that as the snowbirds start coming that some buyers will come as well.
We are planning on doing a garage sale the last weekend of this month, anything else we don’t sell we will be donating, And we’ve also continued to work on our languages, trying to learn a few basic phrases in each language in areas we plan on spending time.
Our focus these days has mostly been on making this move toward full time travel. There’s a lot to do to make a change like this. There’s a lot of “things” to liquidate and we have tried to sell as much as we can, either through eBay, marketplace and word of mouth. We have packed up the things our daughters wanted to keep and we’ve been sorting, cleaning out and shredding our office files etc..,
I’m glad we are doing all of this now as we know it will make our job a lot easier when the time comes to pack all of what we are taking back to Washington to give to our girls or to put in storage. We are not keeping very much, so we will have a very small storage but we need a place to keep our personal files, photos and some personal belongings as well as winter clothes for when we return for visits.
All in all we feel more than ready to go, we continue to research full time travel gaining as much knowledge as possible. And we know it won’t be too much longer we will be in the throws of wrapping our lives up here and starting this next phase of life. We look forward to writing the next post announcing that the house is sold. Until then, happy trails 😊
