Have you ever asked yourself the question after finally doing something you’ve thought about for a very long time why didn’t I do this sooner? Or Why did we wait so long? After being here for almost four weeks we were talking a couple of days ago about just that, why did we wait so long?
We had always talked about moving here in retirement but why did we wait? I have no real answer for that except to say we most likely were afraid to leave job security and did not want to move our kids from their schools again. It’s not as if we hadn’t packed up the family and moved across the country before but when we did that our children were younger, but once they were older and established in school then it became easier to just stay settled.
I realize it’s only been just shy four weeks but we love it here and now I’m wishing we would have courageously taken that step to move here sooner because if we had our children and grandchildren wouldn’t be over three thousand miles away.
But we are here now and I think we are just living our life with such gratitude it’s making us better happier people.
We met some of our future neighbors as we were out for a bike ride the other night. Really nice folks currently living in North Carolina but from Alaska. We talked for quite a while. They had a friend with them looking at their house they are building that also was from Alaska and currently lives in Margaritaville which we looked at before we decided on the community we are in. Margaritaville is a fifty five and older community with amenities galore. We liked everything about that community except the restrictions it placed on our children if they came for visits. Those restrictions were enough for us to decide it wasn’t for us, however we really liked so many of the amenities that we came close to building in there.
Everyone we talk to has the same gratitude as we do, just thankful to be living in such a beautiful place, and where else can you still be wearing shorts in November and still have the beach? There’s not many places you can do that here in the U.S.

Tonight we are attending our new church, we have only gone there a couple of other times but they have done a great job in outreach. We’ve had several people reach out inviting me to coffee and inviting us to welcome events. It’s refreshing. I think a lot of churches let newcomers slip through the cracks and tend to drop the ball in that department, but these folks have done a great job at making sure your connected. This too has been a really nice experience for us.
If you’re at a place in life that you have dreams of living somewhere else and you are able to make the move, don’t wait. Don’t be like us asking ourselves “why did we wait so long”? This is the happiest we have been in a very long time and I wouldn’t trade this for anything at this point in my life.
Life is short and meant to be enjoyed, so if you have the ability and means to live your dream, go do it, what are you waiting for?
