Four days down of unpacking and not even close to being complete.
I remember when we were younger we could move and I would have that place unpacked in just a few days. Over the years we have moved several times and each time I clean out and give a bunch of stuff away only to find it all somehow comes back and then increases in volume over the next few years. Well not this time I told myself, we have way to much ”stuff” and no one needs this much stuff so I made a vow to myself I would not pack it or bring it unless I planned on using it.
Well, here we are, we just finished our fourth day of unpacking and I’ve already got a charity box going and a car load of things we are hauling away. So why did we move it all the way across the country just to give it away? I have no excuses except to say I wasn’t sure of what we would want or what we would use until I actually seen it in the house. But even saying that some of this stuff is ridiculous that we even brought it. Oh well I guess.
It’s been a very busy week, upon arrival we found our water to be less than desirable, so we contacted three water companies to get quotes, they all come out and give us their best sales pitch to why we should choose them in putting in a full house water filtration system. We made a decision and had that installed yesterday. Yay! Good clean soft tap water!
Our home is called a ”smart” home and the people came yesterday to hook up all of our smart features. I’ve never been a big fan of advanced technology, it seems so intrusive, but I can see the draw to it. Alexa turn on lights and tada they are on. Its a nice feature too if your away from home you can turn on lights while away so yes, I do see why people like this stuff, but I’m not sure about that thing listening all the time in your home. It kind of creeps me out.
The unpacking is going slow, constant interruptions from the cable installers, water people, technology folks and furniture delivery etc.. but we are in no hurry and we will keep plugging away at it until it is finished. And trying to decide where we want things is another challenge, especially beings we don’t have all of our furniture yet and some things could take a while to get. But it’s all coming together slowly but surely.

Tomorrow we will be attending our first community event. We are looking forward to going, they are having a live band playing at the community band shell and supplying a free hot dog lunch and beer if you like beer. We are looking forward to meeting some more of the neighbors. Sounds like some much needed fun and we could use a little of that. We are hoping to be unpacked enough to start using the gym and to start swimming laps every day as well. It’s something we’ve been looking forward to but we are just buried in too deep right now to take breaks. But now that we are getting the kitchen a little more functional we are thinking by Sunday we can start taking a little much needed time for ourselves. It’s one of the many things that attracted us to this community.
So as the morning sun comes up we are starting a new day and being grateful for every single moment. We really do not take this all for granted. As we feel like we could pinch ourselves, it’s like living in a vacation resort. God has truly blessed us. And I can honestly say I do not believe we will ever grow tired of our sunset views. They simply are amazing.
