Home Sweet Home

Day seven and we finally made it! Yipppeeee we are home!!!
Our last days drive was short and sweet. We only had a three hour drive and the landscape was beautiful to look at as we made our way through northern Florida. We did notice a sudden increase in Palm trees and as we drove we crossed over the famous Suwannee River which then Gene and I both started singing ”Way down upon the Suwannee river” oh boy. Anyways….

As we arrived with our giant truck our next door neighbor came over to introduce themselves. We also met our neighbor across the street and the future owners of the house that is being built on the other side of us. Everyone seemed so nice and friendly. And someone brought us cookies and left them while we were gone with a little Halloween game saying we’ve been Boo’d. I need to play along, I’m terrible at that stuff.

After a hard day of unloading the truck with our movers who did a great job by the way, we went to dinner and our friends that are also moving down here just happened to be driving from the airport near our exit where we live, so I invited them to stop by the restaurant where we were dining, so they joined us for dinner which was a lovely surprise.

Our number one goal after getting the truck unloaded was to get our bed set up, I personally could care less about anything else, I just needed to know I would be getting a good nights sleep in my own bed.

And after a good nights rest I can see already we have a very busy week ahead. We had a lot of errands to run so that’s how we started our first morning. Coming back into our neighborhood after our errand running we were greeted by nature which I absolutely love and hope I’ll never grow tired of. We seen several egret, turkeys, and sandhill cranes as we drove into the development. Gene tells me to stop taking pictures of them because I do every time I see them, but I can’t help myself, I really love all wild life, always have so this is a treat for me every single time.

When we chose this community one of the things we liked was all the nature around us. We are a mere eight miles to the beach, our community backs to the Tiger Bay State Forest Nature Preserve which is thousands of acres of just as the name says, nature! I hope to see a bear. I guess there have been a few sightings in the community so I’m hoping that happens for me, or even better yet a panther. Our builder told us he has seen a panther with two cubs pass through here. I’m fearful that as more development happens we will see less nature, I hope not.

The houses are closer together than we’d prefer, however we wanted less to take care of as we age but still have space in our back yard. We feel we achieved that. We eventually want to add a pool but that’s down the road. We have a lot of things to do before we can begin shopping pool contractors. Our community has two pools so we will not be doing without.
A friend who lives near us stopped by today, it is these friends who introduced us to Daytona Beach some 20 plus years ago. Even though we have vacationed here in Florida about thirty two years, we did not start frequenting Daytona Beach until our friend’s moved here. We fell in love with the quirkiness of this area and all the happenings going on. It can get to be a very busy place but it is the beach life we wanted. We are so excited we will have some of our very best friends just a few minutes away.

Tomorrow is another full day and I need to get rested up for the fun task of tackling some boxes. I started putting my shelf liners in the kitchen and have that to finish plus I still need to do the bathrooms before I open one box and the window coverings are going to be installed tomorrow, and they are coming to install our cable, and the water purifier guy is coming to give an estimate so like I said, a very busy day. I’ll be glad to have it all done and I really look forward to that day Gene and I can sit on our porch swing and relax and just enjoy the view.
