Almost Home….

Well here we are on day five in Tennessee. We have traveled from Washington to Oregon, to Idaho to Utah to Wyoming back to Utah to Colorado to Kansas to Missouri to Illinois to Kentucky and now to Tennessee my former home state. Whew, this exhausts me to actually see how far we have traveled.
I started getting excited as soon as I arrived in Kentucky as this is nearing my former home state. We have a special place in our hearts for this area. Our family roots go back to Kentucky and after living in Tennessee for almost ten years, and continuing to work in Nashville this area became my second home and will always hold a special place in my heart. I have made some amazing friendships here and treasure my time here and look forward to coming back more frequently now that I’m closer.

We drove another long hard day, we hit a major storm in Kentucky and that made for some pretty stressful driving for a bit. I am going to have to re acclimate to the storms in the south, there is nothing like them out west, the rains come in torrential downpours, raindrops the size of half dollars and can turn a freeway into a river in just minutes. Our worst storms in Washington just don’t compare so I know there will be an adjustment period for that. I actually enjoy a good thunderstorm but watching it from the comforts of my home rather than driving in one is definitely my preference.

Driving through this area was very difficult for me, I have many friends here I would have loved to stop to visit with, but with our time so tightly budgeted we just could not do that on this trip. So once we are settled into our new home we will make our way up to visit and spend some time.
So as the day has came to a close we ended up in Manchester Tennessee for the night. Upon arrival to our hotel there was a woman passed out in the grass with rain pouring down on her right near the entry to the hotel. Another woman was talking to her so I assumed they were together, but then the woman who was talking to her came inside and asked the woman at the front desk if they knew there was a woman laying outside in the rain. It turned into a big thing, she was evidently on drugs, they were not sure where she came from, 911 was called, police and an ambulance came and she took off running. They caught her and were taking her to the hospital. it’s so sad that people get caught up in this stuff. Prayers she’s O.K and that she can get herself together.

Well, just two more states to go and we will be home. Our next leg is an easy one. We could have driven hard and went straight to our house but decided we wanted to be well rested and ready for moving day so we are taking it a bit easier on this last leg of our journey and making the short seven hour drive to southern Georgia, stopping for the evening there and then tomorrow we will make the even shorter three and a half hour drive to our home. It has been a journey for sure but as we’ve gotten into the rhythm of things it really has not been too bad, but in saying that we are almost home and I am ready to get there and start unpacking.
The trip has been long and we can feel ourselves getting more eager with the anticipation of finally being finished with the drive. We feel like the time has gone pretty quickly really, we know each other well and travel great together. So tonight will be our last night in a hotel and tomorrow we should be sleeping in our own bed in our new home. Now that is something I’m looking forward to.
