Toto, We’re Not In Kansas Anymore

I think when you say Kansas for many of us our minds wander to thoughts of Dorothy and Toto in the Wizard of Oz. Somewhere over the rainbow, there’s no place like home, lions and tigers and bears, oh my!! But in reality as we make the trek across Kansas what I see is the heartland of America. Miles of wheat and corn fields. Big Farms lay sporadic across the state. This is what is referred to as fly over country by some. But it’s so much more than that. It is where a huge amount of our food sources come from. And at every stop we’ve made, the people are very friendly.

As we drive there is a different kind of beauty here as well. One can look across these vast prairies and see as far as your eyes can see, and I cant help but notice on the stops we’ve made the peace and quiet, just the sound of crickets and birds chirping, and the grass blowing in the breeze. It’s quite breathtaking really. Of course it isn’t anyplace I would choose for myself to live but for those that long for a slow pace of life and don’t like having a lot of people around I can totally see the draw.

So as we embarked on day four it went off without any hitches, and after the previous day we really appreciated the long flat straight dry road. Gene had that truck moving at a great pace down the interstate and we were able to make up time. As I said before, staying on the schedule is very important so we will arrive to the house just a couple of hours before the movers arrive. We were thankful that we were able to make up that lost time. So we crossed Kansas enjoying the sunshine and made our way into Missouri. We decided to stay in Blue Springs and after another long day on the road we took an opportunity to take a break and go out to dinner, it was a nice break considering most of our meals have been hotel continental breakfasts and sandwiches that I make along the way.

So we are now over the halfway mark and on the downhill slide. I’m doing quite well surprisingly, but definItely ready to get there. So now I think I’ll just click my heels together and say three times, there’s no place like home, theres no place like home, there’s no place like home because Toto, we aren’t in Kansas anymore and are finally getting closer to our new home.
