So day two we started off in Boise Idaho and headed East SE to Utah and then onto Wyoming. Our original plan was to stay in Rock Springs but after we stopped to fuel up in Evanston we began to head east on US80 and a big flashing sign announcing a road closure was ahead and the arms blocking the road were down with police turning people around. We went onto the Wyoming DOT website and it showed an accident, we waited over an hour and decided to go back to town and grab an early dinner. Three and a half hours went by so we headed back out to the freeway to see if it opened yet and the road was still closed and now the police were saying blizzard conditions ahead. We have not had snow falling here just some light flurries so its hard to fathom the weather being so bad just an hour away that its shutting everything down, but I guess this is normal for Wyoming.
I have never seen so many semi trucks in one place, I am not exaggerating when I say there were hundreds lining both sides of the freeway two thick on each side, also completely filling the weigh station, parked up and down the on and off ramps and parked in every large vacant lot in the area, and the lines of trucks are running for at least five miles down the freeway. We called local hotels and got the last room with a king bed in town. So grateful we got a room and didn’t have to sleep in the car, that would have been a cold miserable night. We are really hoping we can get going early in the morning.
The drive today was beautiful passing by the red clay mountains, going through the Unitas and then finding ourselves stranded on the high plaines. It’s so cold here though and it is only October. Absolutely beautiful country but I really do not like the cold and being here makes me really want to get to Florida that much faster.
I remember when the kids were little and we would take long road trips and every little bit one would ask ”are we there yet”? Well that is how I am feeling with this delay. Talking to the gal at front desk of the hotel this could be a two day delay so we may end up rerouting and backtracking through Provo and catching 70 East through Denver. this could be a very long trip. Now it’s my turn to ask,
Are we there yet?????
