City Living

I never imagined myself living in the city in a high rise apartment. Gene and I were always drawn to small town living, we didn’t like traffic and crowds and especially noise. We preferred the peace and quiet of a more rural atmosphere. So in every place we have lived it was always a smaller town with charm and personality and a real sense of community.

But now here we are living in Tacoma, a high rise of all things. At first we were asking ourselves what are we thinking? And are we doing the right thing? I can honestly say after living here for months we would not trade this experience for anything. Our apartment seems exceptional. Maybe it’s not but beings we don’t know any different it seems exceptional to us, and to all of our friends that have visited us here, they seem very impressed with what our apartment has to offer.

We have a beautiful fitness center, billiard room, a living room with full kitchen for larger parties, BBQ area on the roof with spectacular views of Commencement Bay, Hot tub, Wifi Cafe which includes free popcorn popped fresh daily, free Ice cream in the freezer, bottled water, coffee and tea and my personal favorite fresh baked cookies every single day!! YUM!!

Our apartment is small, approximately 750 square feet, the building is secure and we have a security person on site. Also a secured covered parking garage. Our particular unit has a balcony that also has a gorgeous view of the waterfront and the Port of Tacoma.

In truth we have had a few “incidents” that definitely remind us we are in the city, at night it can get crazy around here. We’ve witnessed a homeless guy dropping his pants in the middle of the street, we’ve seen theft, an assault and have heard gun shots more times than we care to, however even with these incidents, we still really like it here and generally feel safe. We don’t wander around at night on foot too far from our apartment, but during the day we walk everywhere. We are just a couple of blocks from the historical district of Tacoma and also a couple of blocks the other way from the theatre district. It’s a great location and we highly recommend to anyone looking for a place in the city.

Looking back over the last few months, we have really had a lot of great experiences and I have come to appreciate city living. But now here we are packing, getting ready to leave this chapter and bring it to a close and head toward our next step, chapter three, retirement is here for both of us and now we are getting ready for what lies ahead. I hope you’ll come along with us and share in our personal adventures, and be a part in our dream coming true! Thank you to those who have supported us along this journey. We are only getting started!
